Job Summary: As a Journeyman Refrigeration Technician, you’ll play a crucial role in installing, maintaining, and repairing various refrigeration systems across different settings, from walk-in coolers to HVAC systems. You’ll diagnose issues, perform routine maintenance, and ensure top performance while staying ahead of the curve and meeting industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation & Maintenance:

  • Install, Test, and Commission Systems: Bring new refrigeration systems to life, including walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, and HVAC systems.
  • Routine Maintenance: Ensure systems are running smoothly with scheduled maintenance, inspections, and early problem detection.
  • Refrigerant Handling: Charge refrigeration systems with refrigerant and verify the operation of each system.

Repairs & Troubleshooting:

  • Diagnose & Repair Malfunctions: Tackle various challenges, from compressors to condensers and electrical controls.
  • Efficient Problem-Solving: Use specialized tools for accurate diagnostics and repair, restoring systems to optimal performance.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Regulatory Expertise: Stay up-to-date on refrigerant handling laws (EPA Section 608 Certification required).
  • Safety First: Follow OSHA guidelines and workplace safety standards to ensure the well-being of yourself and your team.
  • Accurate Reporting: Maintain clear records of service performed, refrigerant usage, and system performance.

Customer Service & Communication:

  • Customer-Focused: Professionally engage with clients, explaining their needs and offering innovative solutions.
  • Proactive Advice: Recommend system upgrades or preventative maintenance to enhance system longevity.
  • Team Communication: Collaborate with colleagues and management, updating everyone on job progress and issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Journeyman Refrigeration Technician license (per state requirements).
  • EPA Section 608 Certification for refrigerant handling.
  • 3-5 years of experience in refrigeration installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools used in refrigeration work.
  • A knack for solving problems and a high attention to detail.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 50+ lbs.
  • Comfortable working in various environments (cold storage, restaurants, grocery stores, and outdoor locations).
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, refrigerants, and electrical components.
  • Availability for on-call shifts, overtime, and travel to job sites in a company-provided vehicle.
